On October 9, LMC, our technical representatives in Japan, hosted a VIC-3D User Meeting in Tokyo. CEO Hubert Schreier, Senior Applications Engineer Ian Adkins, and Hendrik Pulju of Correlated Solutions Europe made the trip to present to a packed house of DIC users from across Japan. Thank you to the LMC team for organizing the day, and to everyone who came.
LMC's own talk began with a short history of DIC. It ran from the foundational papers at the University of South Carolina in the 1980s to 2004, the year LMC started selling Correlated Solutions systems in Japan. Twenty-two years is a long partnership, and we're grateful for it.
Hubert gave an overview of new software features, including visualization in iris, the finite element workflow, and the extension system, along with application examples from wind turbine and forming limit curve measurements.
Ian took the finite element workflow further, comparing DIC measurements with FE results in VIC-3D. The comparison runs in the Compare DIC and FE extension. It interpolates FE displacements onto the DIC grid and recomputes FE and DIC strain with the same filter and tensor, so the residual reflects the model and not differences in how strain was calculated.
Hendrik's talk asked what it takes to make high-resolution DIC measurements with the lowest possible uncertainty.
It was good to see so much interest and enthusiasm in Tokyo. We can't wait to come back.
