Celebrating Dr. Cesar Augusto Sciammarella

Congratulations to Dr. Sciammarella for an incredible career as a pioneer of optical measurement technology!

Check out this retrospective in the latest issue of Experimental Mechanics in which Correlated Solutions co-founder Michael Sutton joins C. Furlong, H. Espinosa, K.-S. Kim, and G.A. Shaw to outline Dr. Sciammarella’s numerous and varied contributions to our field.

“Professor Sciammarella has made profound and lasting contributions to the field of experimental mechanics. Over more than seven decades, his pioneering developments in Moiré, holography, speckle interferometry, and optical metrology have continuously expanded the boundaries of measurement science, from structural scales measuring meters to super-resolution methodologies capable of resolving features at the nanometer level. In the last two decades, his innovations enabled optical measurements beyond the classical Rayleigh limit, achieving accuracies on the order of several nanometers in the far field of nanocrystals and nano-spheres, and supporting applications ranging from virus morphology reconstruction (including SARS-CoV-2) to metrology of diamond wafers for semiconductor technologies.”
