iDICs 2026: Wrapping Up in Vietnam

The ICECM/iDICs 2026 Joint Conference closed on Thursday at the Caravelle Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth this week, and to HCM-UTE and the organizing committee. iDICs is always such a great opportunity to reconnect with friends from all over the world and meet a new group of researchers invested in digital image correlation. We learned a lot, and we had a lot of fun.

On Wednesday, CEO Hubert Schreier presented a generic B-spline camera model for a problem from ballistics testing. A mirror protects the high-speed cameras. The first-surface mirrors used in these tests have a slight waviness, and it leaves periodic errors in the measurement that a standard camera model can't correct. Dr. Schreier's model adds a generic B-spline distortion field on top of the standard model, a flexible correction that can follow that irregular distortion across the image. The same approach is already in VIC-3D 11.6, for high-magnification systems such as stereo microscopes and Blue Falcon.

After the conference, Alistair and Bluejay from our sales team visited our partners at LMS Technologies Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City. They demonstrated the Blue Hawk system and walked the LMS team through the new features in VIC-3D 11.6. It was great to meet everyone and tour their impressive offices. Our thanks to LMS for hosting us.

As a founding member of iDICs, we've sponsored the conference since the society began. Next year it moves to Bristol, UK. We'll see you there.
