Microscope Lighting Systems

Small areas of interest and small fields of view often require unique lighting systems due to their relatively small features and deformations. Fiber optic illuminators, ring lights, and the Blue-X-Focus light are ideal solutions for providing light for such applications.

Since even small motions in a small field of view's area of interest can result in blurry images, it is important to have a short exposure time, which in turn requires large amounts of external light to have a sufficiently bright image. Fiber optic illuminators provide a tremendous amount of light, so they are well suited for obtaining data on small samples during quick tests.

Ring lights are excellent for microscopy applications, as they reduce shadowing effects associated with directional lighting. They provide uniform illumination, which comes from all directions around the ring. When samples with many out-of-plane features and complex geometries need to be measured ring lights are great tools to help get the job done.

The Blue-X-Focus lighting system provides high-powered monochromatic lighting. When combined with optical filters, the highest possible optical resolution is achieved at the highest magnification, resulting in a sharper image and improved DIC data.

Fiber Optic Microscopy Lighting

Low-profile design fits into tight spaces / Complete 0 to 100% light intensity control

Fiber optic illuminators are ideal for illuminating small fields of view because they are provided with dual gooseneck light guides that are highly maneuverable. This allows them to access areas that could be difficult for standard lighting solutions to access. These high-performance illuminators deliver 400,000 footcandles of high-intensity cold light. Minimal light leakage makes these illuminators ideal for your photosensitive applications. Audible noise and vibration are minimal, a convenient side door makes changing lamps fast and easy, and light pipes fit securely without the need for adapters.

What’s included:

  • 1 x 150-watt quartz halogen bulb

  • 6 ft (1.8 m) power cord with US standard plug (230 VAC models have European plug)

Blue-X-Focus for Microscopy Lighting

In addition to mono lighting, the Blue-X-Focus is an ideal companion to the VIC-3D Microscope System.

This custom-designed light source is extremely powerful and ideal for high-magnification applications, high-temperature applications, or when monochromatic light is required. The Blue-X-Focus comes standard with the Micro-DIC system and is optional for the VIC-3D Microscope system, as it effectively improves image quality over standard daylight (white) LED systems. The lighting system is available with any VIC system or as a stand-alone lighting solution. Below are the features of this powerful accessory.

  • The pulse mode reduces motion blur and maximizes light power at the lowest possible heating of the object's surface

  • Large beam expansion range from 3.2° to 60° for small to large field of view. Operation through small windows

  • A polarization filter (optional) is suppressing direct reflections in combination with a second pair for the sensors

  • The short wavelength can be used in combination with bandpass filters for measuring hot samples

  • Power: Standard operation with 80 W in continuous mode or 120 W for pulse mode depending on duty cycle. Power is adjustable manually or externally by pulse length and frequency as well as automatically limited depending on temperature.

  • The focusing adapter for standard DIC is from 5° to 60° expansion. The version for small FOV is adjustable from 3.2° to 4.7° expansion corresponding to e. g. 5 mm x 3 mm at 53 mm WD or 300 mm x 140 mm at 1800 mm WD (working distance)

  • Mounting is possible horizontal or vertical via M6 or ¼” threads

  • The cooling air stream is directed from the front inlet to the backside to avoid hot airwaves in the images.
